2010 Sauv Blanc

2010 Sauvignon Blanc
View Full DetailsWe source the fruit for this wine from the steep north facing slopes of our Lumeno property by Osoyoos Lake and the south west facing slopes near Dead Mans Lake in Oliver. Stringent canopy management and timely leaf removal has resulted in a spectrum of varietal characteristics from tropical fruit flavours to classic gooseberry and grass. The cool nights of the Okanagan provide great natural acidity and structure while keeping the fruit profile zesty and vibrant. Borrowing a little old world flair from Didier Dagueneau we used partial oak ferment and aging for added complexity and texture.

Recommended Food Pairing:

Grilled oysters in the half shell topped with lemon and garlic or Frisee salad dressed with lardon and a soft boiled egg will compliment the bright flavours within this wine.

"...Combinations of stainless steel and oak aging with an NFL-like playbook of variations was used to create an overtly complex and tasty dry wine that offers rich tropical fruit, herbal, mineral, lees and light oak characters on the nose and palate..."

"...This dramatic white has aromas of lime, grapefruit and guava that explode from the glass. It delivers those flavours powerfully, finishing with notes of herbs, spices and even white pepper. This is one of the most expressive Sauvignon Blancs to come from the Okanagan. "

This is a very fine, complex sauvignon from vines grown on a north facing slope in Osoyoos (to create less ripe, higher acid grapes in this hot region). Just under 20% was barrel fermented adding a touch o sice to the complex, very fine nose. Look for fresh herbs, green quince/gooseberry fruit, fresh mint and even a vague tangerine scent. The palate is quite full and ripe but the flavours are cool and green, with some celery and tomato leaf on the finish. Excellent to outstanding length.

"Le Vieux Pin's 2010 sauvignon is a highly aromatic, intensely flavoured example that sits comfortably somewhere between the nettles and grass of the Loire Valley and the ripeness of, say, Napa Valley, moving into the tangerine, passion fruit and guava spectrum; in fact it's highly reminiscent of the sauvignons from Friuli in northern Italy. The palate is medium-full, with crisp-balanced acidity and a fair bit of flesh thanks to a small percentage of barrel fermenting/ageing and battonnage. Finish lingers nicely. I'd suggest this is designed for current drinking or short term ageing - get it while it's lively and fresh. A fine example all in all. Tasted May 2010."

"SMELL: Super aromatic, tropical pineapple and guava, with green kiwi apple and lime. Some honey / bees wax. Great wet stone minerality, hints of fresh sage TASTE: Really GOOD! Tells a story in my mouth, lime citrus and tropical with spice, apple and kiwi. Honey, spice and minerality with sage on the finish.  SUMMARY: AWESOME"
